Singer and politician Pınar Aydınlar has been detained at Atatürk Airport as she was entering Turkey from Germany. Aydınlar, whose passport has been confiscated, has been taken to Bakırköy Women’s Closed Prison.
It has been reported that sentence of 10 months in prison issued for Aydınlar due to some speeches she made as part of her electoral campaigns she ran as Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) İzmir MP candidate for June 7, 2015 general election. Aydınlar has been charged with “propagandizing for an illegal organization”.
Stating that he met with Aydınlar, Taylan Kulaçoğlu posted on his Twitter account:
“I’ve met with my dear friend, comrade Pınar Aydınlar, she is arrested! They are taking her to Bakırköy! She told me ‘I prefer serving time in my country’s dungeons to resist fascism over wandering freely at the fancy streets of Europe’. We are proud of you!”

Born in 1979 in İstanbul, Pınar Aydınlar graduated from Turkish Music State Conservatory at İstanbul Technical University.
In 2003, she released her first solo album called “Türkü Söylemek Lazım”. Later in 2007, she released albums called “Kırmızı Gül” and “Mavi Bir Düş” in 2011.
She became co-candidate for İstanbul Mayor with Sırrı Süreyya Önder from the HDP in 2014 local elections.
She was the HDP’s MP candidate from İzmir together with Ertuğrul Kürkçü in June 7, 2015 elections. Writing pieces on soL newspaper, Aydınlar performed in a movie called Devrimden Sonra (After the Revolution) in 2011.
