Nine women prisoners at Elazığ Women's Closed Prison are investigated for singing Kurdish songs, JinNews reported.
Former Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) deputy Leyla Güven and HDP Diyarbakır Provincial Co-Chair Hülya Alaökmen-Uyanık are among those under investigation, according to the report.
Investigation minutes obtained by JinNews says "They loudly performed verbal halay [a folk dance] in an incomprehensible language" and "They sang anthems in an incomprehensible language."
The nine prisoners were requested to present a defense regarding the events on August 15.
Names of the prisoners under investigation: Hülya Alökmen-Uyanık, Beritan Anahtar, Emine Erkan, Nuray Çelik, Dicle Bozan, Fethiye Ok-Çiçek, Leyla Güven, Mihriban Şorli, Remziye Yaşar.
HDP's Güven was arrested in December 2020 after receiving a prison sentence for "being a member of a terrorist organization."
On June 11, an appeals court upheld her sentence of 22 years and 3 months. (RT/VK)
