Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) Central Executive Board Member, feminist and peace activist Gülsüm Ağaoğlu was released in the first hearing held this morning (August 17).
Ağaoğlu was taken into custody for “propagandizing for a terrorist organization” over her speech in Nowruz celebration in Ergene, Tekirdağ, and was arrested on March 22. Ağaoğlu was kept in first Tekirdağ Prison and then in Gebze Women’s Prison since then.
An indictment with charge of “propagandizing for an illegal organization” was prepared against Ağaoğlu due to that speech.
Tekirdağ 3rd Heavy Penal Court ruled for release of Ağaoğlu in the first hearing today.
Her friends and acquaintances weren’t let inside the courtroom
Ağaoğlu attended the hearing via Audio and Visual Information System from Gebze Prison.
Ağaoğlu’s friends and acquaintances weren’t allowed to enter the courtroom due to “security reasons”. (AS/TK)
