Stripped of his MP status and arrested on April 3 shortly after undergoing an angio, Ömer Faruk Gergerlioğlu has sent a message from prison via his attorneys. His message has been shared on his Twitter account.
"Don't get concerned about me. I am standing bolt upright, I am in very high spirits. I am sending you my good energies," he has said and added:
"On my first day here, I almost felt like lowering my guard; but, now, I am standing bolt upright. I am proud and honorable. Getting demoralized is out of the question. We have so much to do.
"You cannot imprison my soul, love and enthusiasm any way! Even if we are in the dungeon, we are the deputy of the people. I will not stay silent, I will not bow down. As long as we have our resolution...
"While I was forced to get in the car, my son Salih told me, 'Don't worry, dad. We will pursue your path.' That was enough for me. They are cruel and despotic, but we are patient, just and conscientious.
"I am writing on the day planner of a brother from Boğaziçi here. He told me, 'May you remember us in prison.' It was as if he gifted his heart to me. The notebook is small, but its spiritual value is beyond price.
"I am actually a foot soldier in the struggle. Just as the order of fear that they tried to impose through me came up against this people's will before, it will be defeated by this people's conscience now. Getting demoralized is out of the question." (EKN/SD)
