"We hope this method which rules out the option of war and offensive will be permanent and continuous," Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) Spokesperson Günay Kubilay said on the recent agreement between Turkey and the US regarding northern Syria to create a buffer zone in northern Syria.
Speaking at the weekly press conference he held at the party's headquarters, Kubilay said, "This meeting shows that when there is a will, problems can be solved on the table and by the means of dialogue.
"We hope this method which rules out the option of war and offensive will be permanent and continuous. However, because those concerned regarding the problem did not take place in the agreement, it is deficient.
"The Kurdish question cannot be resolved by talking to the US and Russia. We have been saying for years that we can solve our own problems with dialogue and negotiations without needing another power.
"What has to be done regarding the problem of northern Syria is to talk with the representatives of the Kurdish people and the Syrian Autonomous Administration and coming together with them around a round table."
"The discourse of 'peace corridor,' which has been persistently mentioned recently, is problematic because it describes a buffer zone between two enemies and has expansionist ambitions. What needs to be done is to build not a 'peace corridor' but a 'region of peace.'"
The MP further said that Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) leader Abdullah Öcalan's meetings with his lawyers are an important development and showed that his participation in the democratic politics will make "the maximum contribution to solving problems through dialogue and negotiations." (RT/VK)
