A police chief from the Ankara police department threatened Başaran during a demonstration in front of the HDP building by saying
"I will nail you down," .
Başaran described the threats as an attitude to oppress the HDP.
"Since they gave up seeking for a democratic solution to the Kurdish question in April 2015, each day the AKP-MHP alliance has been carrying out policies of attacking our party and the Kurds," she said.
"It was a provocation that was planned by the Minister of Interior," HDP MP added.
"All Kurds, all women were threatened"
"In my person, all Kurds, all women, all HDP members were threatened. I will nail you down is a sentence towards Turkey's democracy" said Başaran.
"We are faced with a government that is so foolish as to think that with this rhetoric and threats, they will make the HDP step back."
EP Turkey Rapporteur's support for the HDP
After the video showing threats of the police against Başaran was shared on social media, various politicians, rights defenders and groups had shared their support messages for the HDP.
European Parliament (EP) Turkey Permanent Rapporteur Nacho Sánchez Amor also condemned the police provocation at HDP Headquarters in a message he shared from his official Twitter account with a solidarity message with the HDP
The harassment & attacks from the police suffered yesterday by opposition party @HDPgenelmerkezi, affecting MPs & board members at their headquarters in Ankara, are unacceptable & speak volumes about the dire state of democratic principles in #Turkey.
