Kept in custody since May 15, artist and politician Pınar Aydınlar was released on probation last night (August 27).
Following the release, Aydınlar said on social media:
“Hi again from where we’ve left! I was released on probation a few hours ago. Besides, for those who are misinformed! I was in confinement cell for 105 days! Love to you all. Long live freedom! Long live our honorable resistance”.
What happened?
Singer and politician Pınar Aydınlar was detained at Atatürk Airport as she was entering Turkey from Germany. Aydınlar, whose passport was confiscated, was taken to Bakırköy Women’s Closed Prison.
Aydınlar was sentenced to 10 months in prison due to some speeches she made as part of her electoral campaigns she ran as Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) İzmir MP candidate for June 7, 2015 general election. Aydınlar has been charged with “propagandizing for an illegal organization”.

Born in 1979 in İstanbul, Pınar Aydınlar graduated from Turkish Music State Conservatory at İstanbul Technical University.
In 2003, she released her first solo album called “Türkü Söylemek Lazım”. Later in 2007, she released albums called “Kırmızı Gül” and “Mavi Bir Düş” in 2011.
She became co-candidate for İstanbul Mayor with Sırrı Süreyya Önder from the HDP in 2014 local elections.
She was the HDP’s MP candidate from İzmir together with Ertuğrul Kürkçü in June 7, 2015 elections. Writing pieces on soL newspaper, Aydınlar performed in a movie called Devrimden Sonra (After the Revolution) in 2011. (BK/TK)
