Hunger strike launched by Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) MPs on January 27 to draw attention to the ones stuck in basement in Turkey’s southeastern Cizre district of Şırnak province has ended.
The hunger strike was initiated by three MPs on January 27 at Ministry of Interior, and that then taken over by MPs of triad to continue in Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) Parliament Group.
HDP in its written statement has noted that the hunger strike did its part in bringing crime against humanity in “basement of horror” incident to country and world public and now will continue the struggle with different methods.
“However, despite all our works, AKP Government’s inhuman attitude concerning retrieving bodies and wounded awaiting to be transferred to hospital, especially those stuck in the basement in Şırnak’s Cizre continues. As of yesterday, some massacre reports increasing our concern and worries have come”.
“We have ended our hunger strike with the determination to continue our struggle against these massacres with our peoples with different tools and methods. Our struggle will increasingly continue. We urge all circles favoring peace and democracy against these war policies to take part in this struggle that we will conduct with our peoples”.
HDP Group Deputy Chairperson İdris Baluken, Adana MP Meral Danış Beştaş and Urfa MP Osman Baydemir had initiated the hunger strike on January 27. On February 1, Group Deputy Chairperson Çağlar Demirel, Muş MP Ahmet Yıldırım and Hakkari MP Nihat Akdğan, on February 4 Diyarbakır MP Feleknas Uca, İzmir MP Müslüm Doğan and Van MP Bedia Özgökçe Ertan, on February 6 Mardin MP Erol Dora, Iğdır MP Mehmet Emin Adıyaman and Urfa MP Dilek Öcalan had taken over the strike.
