Kept in Kandıra Type F Prison, Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) Deputy Co-Chair Aysel Tuğluk has been sentenced to 1 year and 6 months in prison.
Standing ready at Kandıra Criminal Judgeship of First Instance with her lawyer Nuri Tan, Tuğluk stated that reiterated her previous statement of defense and demanded her acquittal.
Tried on charge of “Opposing to law on rallies and demonstrations”, Tuğluk was detained on December 26, 2016 in Ankara.
Tuğluk was arrested for “being a member of an illegal armed terrorist organization”.
About Aysel Tuğluk
Tuğluk was born in 1965 in Elazığ. She graduated from Faculty of Law at İstanbul University. She worked as freelance lawyer.
She served as executive board member of the Toplum ve Hukuk Araştırmaları Vakfı (Society and Legal Researches Foundation). She founded Patriotic Women’s Foundation and was a member of the Human Rights Association.
She served as founding member and co-chair at the Democratic Society Congress (DTP). She was elected MP in the 23rd term (2007-2009). She became Van MP in 2011 elections. (TP/TK)
