Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) Co-Chair Selahattin Demirtaş will appear before judge for the first time on September 6, 2017.
Up to 142 years in prison is demanded for Demirtaş who was arrested on November 4, 2016 as part of an investigation carried out by Diyarbakır Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office. Demirtaş will appear before judge at Ankara 19th Heavy Penal Court after staying 10 months and 2 days in custody.
According to dihaber, attorney Mahsuni Karaman said that the trial would be held at Diyarbakır 8th Heavy Penal Court but then the file was sent to Ankara for security purposes.
Stressing that files of the arrested HDP MPs were transferred to Diyarbakır for security purposes, Karaman said that “The ‘security purposes’ is not a satisfactory explanation, we think that the files were moved to Ankara for political motives”. (EKN/TK)
