Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) has appealed to Constitutional Court (AYM) for cancellation of 26th Parliamentary Elections held on November 1.
In the application made by HDP Law Commission in the name of HDP Party Councilor, Ahmet Karataş, suggested Interim Government acted incongruously against principle of honesty.
HDP had applied to Supreme Election Board (YSK) on November 17, however YSK rejected the application.
Main lines of HDP’s objection is as follows:
The election wasn’t held between sides
“There is no doubt that any election should be held between political parties and independent candidates. However, a series of works and procedures took place contradicting this principle in 26th Term Parliamentary Election.
“A campaign was conducted against our party by unbiased President and Interim Government, public sources were unlimitedly used to this end, media outlets were disciplined in a way that might only be seen in coup times, voters were prevented from voting by being frightened.
"In addition to those, our party wanted to be incapacitated to hold meeting and propaganda because of hundreds of attacks that were launched against our party”.
Election boards were tried to be influenced
“The President and the Interim Government carried out a huge electoral corruption. Furthermore, governor, sub-governor, gendarmerie commanders and security directors that carry out their duties under Government/Interior Ministry attempted to manipulate province and district election boards. However Supreme Election Board didn’t allow it.
“Our party is of the opinion that the way 26th Term Parliamentary Election was held contradicted principles of “freeness” and “equality”, thus it’s not legitimate, and the President and the Interim Government carried out a huge electoral corruption. Our party in this respect has decided to appeal to Supreme Election Board to demand the election to be annulled.” (BK/TK)
