Harassment Complaint Against Security Guard of Maçka Park

Çağla Köse and Burcu Şentürk, who were harassed by a security guard due to her clothes at Maçka Park and were attempted to kicked out of the park, went to the Çağlayan Courthouse to make an allegation.

In the petition submitted to the İstanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office, it was requested that an investigation be launched into the security guard Savaş İ. on charge of “Prevention of exercising freedom of belief, thought and opinion”.

Security company: This incident has disturbed us too

Hürriyet daily newspaper reported that Akdeniz Güvenlik Hizmetleri A.Ş Deputy Director General Süleyman Oğuz said:

“This is not an incident that we approve. We’ve launched an investigation into Savaş İ. following the incident. We asked for his statement. He told us that ‘a woman with a baby in her lap came and said that the girls did some inappropriate things. Then I went and warned them’. The allegations covered by the media conflicted with his statement so we laid him off from the job for the soundness of the investigation. This incident has disturbed us as well. We provide training to our staff on such subjects. This incident has upset us too”.

What happened?

Private security guard Savaş İ. harassed Çağla Köse telling her that he wouldn’t allow her to wander at Maçka Demokrasi Park with the dress she was wearing.

The security guard left the scene upon reactions from the woman and people around.

On the same day, women were staging a demonstration with the “Don’t Interfere Our Clothes”. Following the harassment incident, the demonstration was carried to Maçka Park and women said “Don’t Interfere Our Clothes” on July 30 at Maçka Park. (ÇT/TK)
