In an interview to Die Welt, Mitte District Office Director Falko Drossmann expressed that the precautions against fire in the hall are inadequate, and that these inadequacies were detected during the inspections.
Anadolu Agency: The event hasn’t been cancelled
State-run Anadolu Agency (AA) reported that Çavuşoğlu’s event hasn’t been cancelled.
Another hall was arranged for Çavuşoğlu’s speech and this would be announced today, the AA reported.
Criticizing the decision, Çavuşoğlu said, “They are trying to cancel all our programs by imposing an unprecedented way. This is an oppressive system. They tried to cancel the license of a wedding-ceremony hall in Hamburg. I’ll go, nobody can stop me. We find a place to hold the meeting”.
What happened?
Minister of Justice Bekir Bozdağ and Minister of Economy Nihat Zeybekçi’s events were cancelled successively for security reasons.
Later on, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said, “Your practices are no different than the Nazi practices in the past. We don’t want to see that Nazi world. We thought Germany had passed over these a long time ago, we were mistaken”.
Erdoğan’s “Nazi” statement caused an uproar in Germany. Minister of Justice Heiko Maas stated Erdoğan’s purpose is provocation and it was needed to be more careful.
Lastly, Erdoğan said, ““I thought Nazism had ended in Germany, it seems it still continues”.
The German government made a call for “calmness” and dialogue concerning the strained relations.
German Governmental Spokesperson Steffen Seibert dismissed the Nazi comparison as “absurd”. (YY/TK)
