halktv.com.tr news website's reporter Hazar Dost was taken into custody in Antalya province earlier today (December 8). Dost was in Antalya to report on the beheading of a student at a dorm in the province.
Dost was detained at the Antalya Airport after he got off the plane. Asked about the reason for the detention, the police said that "they did not have any information about it." Kept waiting at the airport for some time, Dost has been taken to the courthouse to give his statement.
Journalist Hazar Dost was reportedly detained upon the criminal complaint of Ankara Vice Director of Security Volkan Er over his news report titled "Vice Security Director beat the police, no investigation ensued: Do you know who I am?" Er filed a criminal complaint against the journalist on charges of "violating the confidentiality of the investigation" and "libel".
While Dost gave his statement at the Antalya Courthouse, it was indicated that the journalist had not been notified about the criminal complaint and not been summoned to give his statement as part of it.
Hazar Dost has been released after giving his statement.
