Mehmet Güvel and Feridun Osmanağaoğlu have declared that they will be on hunger strike until demands of educators Nuriye Gülmen and Semih Özakça, who are on hunger strike, are met.
Güvel (71) has been on hunger strike for 115 days and Osmanoğlu (67)for 72 days.
Association for Solidarity with Families of Convicted and Detainee (TAYAD) member Mehmet Güvel Küçük is on hunger strike in Armutlu.
Another member of the association Osmanoğlu went on hunger strike at Gazi Djemevi 72 days ago. When Semih Özakça was released on Friday (October 19), he decided to go near him and continue his hunger strike there in Ankara, Turkey’s capital city.
Gülmen and Özakça have been on hunger strike for 229 days. Academic Gülmen is still in a ward in Numune Hospital, and Özakça was released on October 20. Özakça’s wife Esra Özakça has also been on hunger strike for 154 days.
“Until Nuriye and Semih’s demands are met…”
Speaking to bianet, Güvel said, “I am on hunger strike as well until Nuriye and Semih’s demands are met. This is how I started and I continue with the same determination”.
Güvel said that they are not in critical condition and they take vitamin B1:
“I don’t have a major issue, sometimes I might have petty disturbances. People from the Human Rights Foundation come to check me once in while”.
Saying that the hunger strike has drawn attention of the whole world but is not covered by the mainstream media, Güvel added, “Such a resistance has influenced the whole world, yet, we don’t find much coverage in the press”. (AS/TK)
