A police investigating on the scene of the incident revealed a number of spent cartridges but the enquiry is continuing.
A mainstream Turkish newspaper reported meanwhile, that the journalist had fired back on the assailants using his licensed pistol before they made their getaway. Working as producer of Adiyaman's Mercan Tv "Ses Ver Adiyaman" program, Ersoy was quoted as saying he had received a number of telephone threats in relation to his program.
Diskaya: Guns should not have been involved
Making a statement after the incident, Adiyaman Journalists Association chairman Zeki Diskaya said "On behalf of our association I vehemently condemn this attack on our former chairman. I am sorry for those friends who have carried it out because guns should not have been involved in this affair. This affair should not have developed this way. As the Association, we will do everything in our responsibility and we will follow up this issue to the end". (EO/II/YE)
