Some 20 Global BAK participants, this week, mailed postcards to members of parliament from the Galatasaray Post Office.
On the front of the postcards were photographs of the detained Iraqis undergoing torture at the Abu Gharib prison in Iraq. On the photographs, it was written: "Who is responsible for these?"
"George Bush, who is responsible for the invasion, torture and murders in Iraq, is coming to our country," Global BAK said in the postcards. "He wants to make Turkey a partner in his crimes. Don't let this happen. Don't let him into the parliament. Listen to the people who are yelling: 'Bush, don't come.'"
Bulent Aydin from the Global BAK made a statement in front of the Post Office and said they were criticizing the members of parliament for not reacting against the invasion and torture in Iraq. "We also criticize cooperation with the U.S.," he said.
The Global BAK also sent a letter to President Ahmet Necdet Sezer. "We expect him to take a stance against Turkey's cooperation with the NATO and its support for the Greater Middle Eastern Project," said Aydin. "Our members of parliament took a very honorable decision on March 1 and objected to U.S. troops in Turkey. Now, they should also object to Bush's visit." (OG/BB/EA/YE)
