The Immigration and Humanitarian Aid Foundation (GİYAV) has prepared a report regarding child right violations in 2015.
According to 2015 Internet Media Juvenile Right Violations Report, 6,417 children have been exposed to right violation in 2015.
703 children died, 1,081 children wounded as a result of these right violations.
3,897 children couldn’t enjoy the justice system exclusive to juvenile.
The report was prepared by scanning local and widespread media on Internet.
Forced marriage, peer violence, suicide…
The stats as to right violations to which children were subjected to in 2015 are as follows: Premature forced marriage: 14, sexual abuse: 58, domestic violence: 16, peer violence: 57, juvenile homicide: 6, home accidents: 11, road accidents: 474, fire: 71, stove poisoning: 34, food poisoning: 210, electric shock: 9, workplace accident: 5, parentage negligence: 387, detention: 120, arrest:69, punishment: 2,405, torture and ill-treatment: 31, protecting juvenile in armed conflict: 153, suicide: 24, missing: 90, drug: 11, violation of right to live subsequent to individual armament: 49, natural disaster: 10, immigrants: 324, drowning: 168, adult violence: 18, others: 159.
Suggestions
Here are the suggestions of GİYAV for state and NGOs:
Constitution and laws of Republic of Turkey must be changed in conformity with Juvenile Rights Agreement. Necessary preventive mechanisms should be established by doing extensive researches with respect to violence against children and child suicides.
All precautions must be taken to prevent premature forced marriage and within this scope, protection mechanism must be formed under the light of United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child’s advices.
Civil code
Article no. 124 of the Civil Code must be changed and making children under 18 get married on parent’s permission must be prohibited.
Religious figures’ performing marriage ceremony for children under 18 must be penalized.
Children with disabilities
The regulations paving the way for children with disabilities to enjoy educational, medical and social processes at the maximum must be actualized in cooperation with NGOs.
Issue of children working in the streets must be resolved in a way to also provide necessary aid to the families within the scope of Convention on the Rights of the Child.
Protection of children
Concerned institutes must take necessary measures in accordance with “Higher interest of children” within the frame of right to protection of children in armed conflict environment.
Land mines especially the ones outside the bordering areas must be removed; during the removal process necessary markings and mine risk trainings must be made. Markings and trainings must be made in mother tongue of risk groups. (YY/TK)
