Free Word Center organized an exhibition within its "ReFrame" project, bringing together 9 caricaturists from the UK, Algeria and Turkey. Currently displayed in London, the show will be also be exhibited in Algeria and Istanbul.
The exhibition aimed to question the perspective of writers and artists regarding EU values and agenda. Studio Rodeo represented Turkey in the activity. Three stories, written by Murat Mıhçıoğlu and illustrated by Cem Özüduru and Naz Tansel, reflected on the current matters in Turkey as references to mentalist Derren Brown’s illustrations.
"Angry Turks" is a story regarding the Gezi Resistance and explores the government’s deficits to understand people’s expectations and reactions.
"Zincirli Gezgin" (Chained Traveller) is a story on EU’s visa procedures on Turkish applicants. However, it partly explored Gezi Resistance as well.
Other artists included Hannah Berry, Ilya and Daniel Locke (UK); Sofiane Belaskri, Mahmoud Benameur and Soumeya Ouarezki (Algeria). (MM/AS/BM)
