German Minister of Interior Thomas de Maiziere has noted that he had doubts that Turkey would meet all the criteria for visa liberalization.
According to the report of Bild daily, De Maiziere holding a speech in the meeting of Christian Democratic Union of Germany (CDU) held on Tuesday in Berlin has said, that President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan “is obviously not that eager to meet the criteria”.
It has also been reported that the Minister has also said “If the criteria were met, there would be no need for visa”.
Erdoğan had earlier said that criteria requiring amendments in the Anti-Terror Law were not acceptable.
European Parliament refused putting on agenda
European Parliament has rejected the proposal of the European Commission to put the visa liberalisation on the agenda.
Spokesperson of the Parliament has noted that the European Parliament’s Committee on Civil Liberties and Justice had decided to not put the subject on the agenda until Turkey had met all of the 72 criteria for visa liberalisation. (YY/DG)
