German Chancellor Angela Merkel has met with Republican People’s Party (CHP) Chair Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu.
Organized at the German Embassy Residence, the meeting lasted for 50 minutes.
Incidents following July 15 coup attempt and constitutional amendment referendum were discussed in the meeting, state-run Anadolu Agency reported.
Referendum
In response to Merkel asking of the incidents following July 15 coup attempt, Kılıçdaroğlu gave detailed information about the process.
Asked of whether a proper referendum can be held during State of Emergency, Kılıçdaroğlu stated that they oppose the State of Emergency and it would be difficult to hold a referendum under these circumstances.
It was reported that in response to question “What result do you expect from the referendum?”, Kılıçdaroğlu said “We are working in favor of ‘no’ notes, we are determined about it”.
Kılıçdaroğlu also remarked that the referendum is about the regime and future of the country. (BK/TK)
