Okan Şimşek has been arrested as part of the trial over the assassination of Agos Newspaper Editor-in-Chief Hrant Dink.
An arrest warrant was previously issued for Okan Şimşek, who was an intelligence officer at the Trabzon Provincial Gendarmerie Command at the time of the murder, on the grounds that there was evidence suggesting that he knew about the journalist's murder beforehand.
Şimşek was caught in an address in Hafsa Sultan Neighborhood in Yunusemre district in Turkey's Mediterranean province of Manisa. He was first taken to the police station, then referred to the courthouse.
Şimşek has been arrested and sent to prison.
In the ongoing trial over the assassination of journalist Hrant Dink, there are currently 76 defendants in total, six arrested and 13 fugitives.
As part of this trial, an arrest warrant was issued for Okan Şimşek, who was a non-commissioned officer at the Trabzon Gendarmerie Command at the time of the murder, on the grounds that there was evidence suggesting that he had known about the murder of Hrant Dink. (HA/SD)
