President and Justice and Development Party (AKP) Chair Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has misunderstood the title of Germany-based Der Spiegel magazine calling him "an autocrat" and said, "Der Spiegel has called us 'the leaders shaping the world.' Praise be to Allah."
Der Spiegel has allocated the cover page of its June edition to President Erdoğan along with the President of Russia Vladimir Putin, the US President Donald Trump and the President of China Xi Jinping.
The magazine referred to the "Ich bin das Volk" (I am the People) statement of Adolf Hitler on its cover page and used the title "Der Zeitalter der Autokraten" (The Era of Autocrats)".
Der Spiegel on the first page of Takvim
Upon the publication of the June edition of Der Spiegel, the pro-government Takvim newspaper also referred to the cover page of the magazine on its first page on June 10.
Misunderstanding the title of Der Spiegel, Takvim wrote, "Der Spiegel, an influential magazine in Germany, has shown President Erdoğan among the four leaders of the new world order." The newspaper also emphasized, "Der Spiegel has carried not Merkel, but Erdoğan to its cover page."
Erdoğan: "Praise be to Allah"
In its election speech on the same day in Kocaeli, President Erdoğan also referred to the cover page of the magazine by stating,
"The Germans have a magazine, it has put pictures of four people [on its cover page], one of them is my picture. It has called us 'the leaders shaping the world.' Praise be to Allah. As a son of this nation, we will continue this service until our last breaths". (EKN/SD)
