Murat Karapınar was put in Silivri Prison while receiving chemotherapy and will appear before the judge tomorrow (June 23).
He was arrested after the statements of a person who benefited from the effective remorse law. He is on trial for membership in an organization.
The evidence against him includes other cases that he is currently being tried for.
"My brother is receiving chemotherapy"
According to reports by Başakşehir Çam and Sakura City Hospital, dated June 14, 2022, Karapınar was diagnosed with stage 4 lymphoma and is receiving chemotherapy every 21 days. He suffers from nausea after the sessions.
Niyazi Karapınar, the defendant's brother, told bianet that they offered all the necessary documents to the court board.
"He has to be released, he is suffering from stage 4 lymphoma and receiving chemotherapy. We do not know if he is being treated well because we are not close to him. The last time we saw him was on Wednesday and he had lost a lot of weight. He looked very tired. We are expecting him to be released."
Tried twice on the same charges
After the allegations of a person, identified by the initials B.E., Karapınar was detained in 2017 and then arrested.
"Later, a lawsuit was filed against me for being a member of an organization and I was imprisoned for 2 years. I was released in 2019. This case is being heard at the İstanbul 24th Heavy Penal Court."
"I went to the hospital after I was released. I was diagnosed with lymphoma there, and I am currently undergoing treatment. After I was released, I started a new job and I am currently busy working."
On probation
"Just like before, I was detained again because of statements made by a person whom I've never met. As far as I understand, a person named K.K gave the names of many people, including mine, and did not specify any time or place."
"The statements are contradictory. In some parts of the statement, the person said I did not greet him/her. In other parts, there are allegations that we were on the same committee. These are contradictory. I believe the person said these to save her/himself."
"Currently, I am receiving treatment and continuing my job. Being arrested will negatively affect my job and treatment."
"I have been released on probation, I do not accept the charges against me."
