Elisa Couvert - a student from France who has been detained during Gezi Park protests for refuging into the building of Socialist Democracy Party due to tear gas and taken to Police Bureau for Foreigners in Istanbul’s Kumkapı district - has been deported last night.
"I was arrested due to Taksim Gezi Park protests. I was taken to the prosecutor. I am innocent. There is nothing in my file. I was held in the foreigner’s bureau for 10 days just because I was a foreigner. And they decided to deport me,” Couvert said at the airport yesterday. She was escorted by two police officers.
Gülizar Tuncer, Couvert’s attorney, told Firat News Agency that Interior Ministry of Turkey ordered to deport on June 22, despite their applications to Justice Ministry and administration courts in Ankara and Istanbul. She claimed that Couvert’s deportation was not lawful.
A former intern, Couvert (24) resumed volunteering at Turkey’s Human Rights Foundation (IHD).
On June 15 she was released by a court without any further charges. (ÇT/BM)
