Arrest warrants were issued for former Adana Provincial Gendarme Commander, former Adana Chief Public Prosecutor and three prosecutors within the scope of MİT (National Intelligence Organization) TRUCKS investigation. They were arrested in this morning by Tarsus Province 2nd High Criminal Court.
Policemen brought former Adana Chief Public prosecutor Süleyman Bağrıyanık, prosecutors Özcan Şişman, Aziz Takçı and Ahmet Karaca to Tarsus Court. Former Adana Provincial Gendarme Commander Özkan Çokay was brought to court last night with his lawyer.
Five detainees’ statements were taken in both audio and video.
After the statements had been taken, court board gave a verdict for Bağrıyanık, Şişman, Takçı, Karaca and Çokay with the charge of “attempting to abolish the government of Republic of Turkey by using violence or to stop authorities perform their jobs partially or completely” and “providing information about state security and political activities and revealing them”.
Özkan Çokay was sent to Adana Military Prison. Prosecutors Bağrıyanık, Şişman, Takçı and Karaca were sent to Adana Province Kürkçüler Prison.
Aziz Erbek, lawyer of former Adana Chief Public prosecutor Süleyman Bağrıyanık said “The prosecutor must be completely objective while doing his job but in Turkey, there is neither trust to prosecutors nor judgment’s objectivity. They all kneel down. The judgment in Turkey is breaking down” in his press statement in front of the court. (AS/BD)

On 1January 2014 in Hatay Province and 19January 2014 in Adana Province MİT TRUCKS were stopped with the allegations that they were carrying weapons and ammo to Syria. Weapons and ammo were found. Hatay and Adana governors ordered the weapon searching to stop. Prosecutor Aziz Takçı who gave orders for trucks to be stopped in Adana was dismissed on 24 January 2014. Former Public Prosecutor Özcan Şişman made an allegation against the people who prevented trucks to be searched and then on 15 January 2015 five prosecutors were dismissed for the sake of investigation. 13 military personnel were sentenced to life imprisonment on 8 May 2014 for stopping MİT TRUCKS in Adana. |
