15 women politicians in southeastern Şırnak, including Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) Cizre District Co-Mayor Candidate Berivan Kutlu and Democratic Regions Party (DBP) Şırnak Provincial Co-Chair Ayşe Altay, were detained yesterday (January 29) during police raids.
Among the detained, Ayfer Şahin Bilici and Confederation of Progressive Trade Unions of Turkey / General Service Workers' Union (DİSK/Genel-İş) Şırnak Branch Co-Chair Zeynep İdin, who is in the eighth month in her pregnancy, were released yesterday after they deposed to the Şırnak Prosecutor's Office, the Jin News Agency reported.
DBP Provincial General Assembly member Kumru Yürük and Sibel Erk were released today after their depositions on the condition of judicial control.
Deposition of 11 women politicians are still continuing at the Şırnak Security Directorate.
The reason for the detentions is not clear yet, the DBP Şırnak branch told bianet. (EMK/VK)
