Gizem Memioğlu, former head of the Nationalist Movement Party's (MHP) women's branch in the Taşköprü district of Kastamonu, northern Türkiye, was found dead at home yesterday (January 5).
Her family, who had not been able to reach her since the previous night, reported the situation to the police, the state-run Anadolu Agency (AA) reported.
After entering Memioğlu's home by having a locksmith open the door, police found her lying motionless in her bed. The cause of death will be determined after the autopsy.
Memioğlu resigned from his position at the MHP on December 11, 2021.
Her death comes a week after the killing of Sinan Ateş, a former leader of the Grey Wolves, an ultranationalist group affiliated with the MHP, in an armed attack.
So far, four people, including the two who carried out the attack with a motorcycle, have been arrested.
MHP officials have avoided commenting on Ateş's killing, and no one from the party was present at his funeral. (VK)
