Images of the suicide attacker were examined in the October 10 massacre trial held by Ankara 4th Heavy Penal Court today (November 22).
The two attackers detected by different cameras on the streets of Turkey’s capital Ankara can be seen entering the meeting area.
Two police officers, who were decided to be heard upon defendant Suphi Alpfidan’s statement that “I helped the Security [forces]”, will give testify today.
The attackers don't pass through any security point
In the footage, one of the attackers Yunus Emre Alagöz and unidentified Syrian attacker walk towards Meclis Çankaya Kapısı (Parliamentary Çankaya Gate) through İsmet İnönü Boulevard from the intersection where Meclis Dikmen Kapısı (Parliamentary Dikmen Gate) and Air Force Commandership after getting off from the taxi they got on in Gölbaşı, Ankara in the morning hours on October 10, 2015.
The two attackers took another taxi here got off on the road next to the General Directorate of Turkish State Railways (TCDD).
The two attackers parting company with each other and walking with a distance of 50 meters from each other, do not pass through any security point.
The footages also show that the first attacker blends into the crowd, an explosion occurs shortly after and a second explosion comes as the people stampede following the first explosion.
“No investigation is launched into civil servants”
One of the intervening lawyers İlke Işık stated that by means of the footages, it is understood that civil servants starting from Antep to Ankara have negligence of duty:
“However, as of now there is not a single ongoing investigation launched into a civil servant. We could only have the court filed a criminal complaint but Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office quickly decided to not put the complaint into effect.
“This is the third decision of the prosecutor’s office to not put the decision into effect. They insist on not launching an investigation, they resist against taking legal action against the civil servants”.
What happened?
Two suicide attackers launched an attack ahead of the Peace, Democracy and Labor meeting attempted to be held in Ankara on October 10, 2015.
102 people lost their lives in the attack.
Trial of the massacre
The indictment concerning the attack was approved on July 13, 2016. The indictment stated that the attack order was given by Islamic State of Iraq and Syria’s (ISIS) representative to Turkey İlhami Balı.
It was stated in the indictment that it was the same people who organized the Suruç attack, which killed 33 people. 14 suspects including Balı facing from 5,083 to 7,820 years in prison on charges of “attempted murder for multiple times” and “attempting to annihilate constitutional order”.
The first hearing of the trial was held at Ankara 4th Heavy Penal Court on November 7, 2016.
Of the victim lawyers Zinet Özçelik said at the hearing held on September 25, 2017 that they examined the CPS reports that show the routes and movements of the ambulances following the explosion and that 11 ambulances didn’t receive any patient and nine others arrived at the scene half an hour later.
