The minibus blast in Ankara on 20 September was apparently captured by MOBESE (Mobile Electronic System Integration) public cameras. Three people died in the explosion and 34 persons were injured. The footage is said to show the assailant.
A parking attendant from a car park close to the scene of the incident and another eye-witness reportedly identified the suspect in their statements made at the Ankara Police Directorate.
According to the camera records, the attacker was wearing a hat, a light coloured t-shirt and dark trousers. It was put forward that he parked his car at the car park and detonated the bomb with a remote control after he had left his car. Based on the footage of the MOBESE and security cameras it was announced that the attack was carried out by a single person.
The Governor of Ankara, Alaattin Yüksel, declared that the explosive used in the incident in the Kızılay district of the capital was highly explosive and intensified TNT.
The People's Defence Forces (HPG) as the armed wing of the separatist Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) declined responsibility for the bomb. A statement issued by the HPG drew attention to the fact that the blast occurred right before a meeting between Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and US American President Barack Obama.
Political Parties and NGOs condemned attack
60-year-old Durdane Beyhan who died in the explosion was laid to rest at the Karşıkaya Cemetery in Ankara on Wednesday (21 September). The funeral was attended by Minster of Transport Binali Yıldırım; Food, Agriculture and Livestock Minister Mehdi Eker; Republican People's Party (CHP) Group Deputy Chair Emine Ülker Tarhan and the Ankara Metropolitan Mayor, Melih Gökçek.
The funeral of 22-year-old victim Mustafa Bingöl was held at the Bağlum Cemetery. The ceremony was not attended by any state officials upon the according request of Bingöl's family.
The body of 18-year-old high school student Orhan Güzel was transferred to his hometown of Kastamonu.
The bomb attack was condemned by the Peace and Democracy Party (BDP), the Human Rights Association (İHD) and the Turkish Human Rights Foundation (TİHV).
In a message signed by BDP Co-Chairs Selahattin Demirbaş and Gültan Kışanak condolences were expressed for the relatives of the persons who died in the attack. It was furthermore stated that the BDP condemned this assault on the right to life. (AS/VK)
