Flash TV, one of the first private television channels of Turkey, has decided to suspend broadcasting for two months.
In the statement released by the channel, it has been stated, "Administrative, political and financial pressures have reached an unbearable point."
The following message has been shared on Flash TV website:
"Our crime is impartiality... "Flash TV is suspending its broadcast... We are turning down our voice for a while due to the pressures that we have long been facing and that have become unbearable. The unlawful practices of the ones holding the political power as well as administrative, political and financial pressures have reached an unbearable point. "We are sharing it with the public that we have decided to stop our broadcast for a while with the aim of preventing our workers and business partners from coming to harm and so as not to cast a shadow upon our 28-year-long history of private broadcasting. An independent media is as precious as an independent judiciary." |
Yenigün: They make a pretense of closure
Mustafa Yenigün, a former reporter for the channel, has written on Twitter:
"It is actually very simple: They couldn't make it, they are trying to save grace with a pretense of closure. Would a channel be closed for 2-3 months? Is it a furniture store? Why are you driving your employees to uncertainty? Give everyone their due. Don't let people starve while they are looking for a job. Then, you can juggle as many things at the same time as you want."
It stopped broadcasting news
The broadcast of Flash TV was suspended for a while in the previous months because it could not make payment to the Türksat satellite communication company.
Allocating a considerable part of its broadcast to entertainment programs, the channel also made an announcement after the suspension of its broadcast, announcing that it would discontinue broadcasting news programs.
Bursa Metropolitan Municipality decided to demolish its Central Office The Metropolitan Municipality of Bursa previously decided to demolish the Tower Plaza in Bursa, where the Central Office of Flash TV is located. While the municipality decided to demolish the building based on a report prepared by a private company which stated that "the building is risky and has to be demolished", a report prepared by the Uludağ University concluded, "We have neither control nor approval for the risky building report." An examination committee affiliated with the Middle East Technical University (METU) also examined the building upon the application of the Flash TV. The committee also concluded that "it is faulty to describe the building in question as risky." * Source: ngazete |
