The fishing ban, which began on April 15 ended today (September 1).
Even though fishers and fish lovers are glad for the end of the ban, the experts are worried.
Bluefish breeds at 27 cm
According to the notification titled “Regulation for Commercial Fisheries Fishing” issued this year, the bluefish that can legally be fished at 20 cm now can be fished at 18 cm.
The experts highlight that the bluefish cannot breed when it shorter than 27 cm. So, even the 20 cm length was too short, now the risk increases with the 18 cm.
This year, light fishery also has been permitted for 45 days in the Marmara region for once only, which will increase the capacity of fishing of small fish like anchovy that might lead to starvation of bluefish and acorn, Slow Food Türkiye / Fikir Sahibi Damaklar leader Defne Koryürek warns. (NV/TK)
