The Adana branch of the Human Rights Association (IHD) has published the message sent from convict Sevcan Atak in Karataş Closed Women Prison.
Atak summarizes the rights violations in the prison in her message dated November 19.
Forced search: Atak tells that when she arrived at the prison in the beginning of November she was told to take off all of her clothes. She says she was insulted and forced to take off her clothes, when she refused. She writes that when she told them she was a media member then they changed their treatment. Atak also says that five female convicts were forced to take off their clothes and sit down and get up three times.
Stamping of the arms during visits: Atak says that the prison administration tries to stamp on the arms of the convicts the expression “one flag, one language, one country” during visitation hours. They try to take away their visitation rights when they refuse.
Prevention of conversations: Atak also says that the conversations between the cells and the visits are prevented.
Atak’s message sent from the prison has the “checked” stamp of the prison administration.
Açıkalın: We will take this matter to the Bar and the Parliament
Ethem Açıkalın, president of the İHD Adana branch, told bianet that they will go to the Ministry of Justice about this matter of rights violations and take it to the Human Rights Commission of the Parliament and the Adana Bar. (TK/TB)
