Felicity Party (SP) has decided to officially participate in the repeat election for the İstanbul Metropolitan Municipality to be held on June 23.
After the Supreme Election Council (YSK) annulled the March 31 elections on the ground of "irregularities regarding the ballot councils", the SP's candidate Necdet Gökçınar declared his decision to participate in the repeat election on his Twitter account on May 2, 2019 and expressed that the final decision would be announced by the Party Headquarters.
Signed by SP Chairperson Temel Karamollaoğlu, these statements have been denoted:
'YSK has neglected the law and the jurisdiction'
"YSK has decided to repeat the elections by neglecting the law, its jurisdiction and precedents.
"Our country has been left face to face with a new process, a new preference because of the annulment and the repetition of the elections.
"Our wish and endeavor as SP are that this new process will lead to the normalization of Turkey, disappearance of the polarization and the elimination of the economic and social difficulties influencing every fraction of the society.
"Our candidate is Necdet Gökçınar"
"In this election, İstanbul has no longer 16 million people but 82 million. İstanbul is the heart of Turkey and İstanbul's tiredness means the Turkey's tiredness.
"Our decision that we took with this responsibility aims to pave the way for Turkey. Considering the consultations in our related establishments, the public tendency and the country's reality, we decided to participate in the June 23 elections with our previous presidential candidate for the İstanbul Metropolitan Municipality, Mr. Necdet Gökçınar.
"On this wise, we invite all citizens as well as the candidates and the political parties to be more sensitive than ever through their discourse and attitudes. We wish this election to bring goodness to our İstanbul, country and nation. Be the June 23 the date of not clashes but of solidarity." (EKN/TY)
