Şaban Vatan, who has been running a campaign on social media for months for her daughter Rabia Naz's suspicious death to be illuminated, has been released from detention.

"Şaban Vatan is at his home tonight. The struggle for justice continues. With a single statement by Muhammet Vatan, Şaban Vatan has shuttled between the prosecutor's office and the hospital under police supervision. A father who lost his child does not deserve the labeled as a mental patient just because he received psychological support at a private hospital for a single time," attorney Bodur Kılıç said.
"It was like everything was premeditated"
Şaban Vatan made a statement after his release, saying that he was "made look as if stayed in a hospital where he did not stay."
"I was called around 09.00 a.m. yesterday morning, I went to the security directorate at 10.00 a.m. They said a testimony will be taken. It was like everything was premeditated. Upon the order of the Prosecutor's Office, my phones were taken. I was taken to the Giresun State Hospital. We waited the doctor to come for around one and a half hour. The doctor said that she will examine the file first. When I went inside, I see such a doctorship for the first time. She asked me questions like in a prosecutor's investigation.
"She said, 'You stayed in this hospital'. I have never stayed in hospital in my life. Information on my staying in private hospitals were printed. Ten days in a hospital, three days in another hospital... These are not true. And these incidents are presented like they happened before Rabia Naz's death.
"I was sent to the Görele Courthouse. A trial was conducted on jet speed. I was released temporarily."
"What I experienced was a detention"
As for the Giresun Security Directorate's and the Prosecutor's Office's statements that there was not an arrest warrant for him, Vatan said, "As a citizen, what I experienced yesterday was a detention."
Also mentioning his meeting with Minister of Interior süleyman soylu in the last month, Vatan said, "There is no comeback. They said, 'We will send an investigator,' and it didn't come. There is not any progress in the case of Rabia Naz Vatan. But I am continuing my struggle in the same way."
"Not detained, but referred to the hospital"
Şaban Vatan was detained upon his brother Muhammet Vatan's complaint to the prosecutor's office. To determine if Şaban Vatan's mental health is good, the prosecutor's office referred him to a psychiatrist.
Şaban Vatan's attorney said after the detention that Muhammed Vatan claimed in his complaint that his brother has mental health issues.
"Muhammet Vatan is the uncle of Rabia Naz and because he does not fulfill his responsibilities, he is at odds with Şaban Vatan. He is unjustly under custody. We are following the process. My client was hastily detained upon a statement that is contrary to the truth and was referred to the hospital."
The Giresun Chief Public Prosecutor's Office released a statement, saying that Şaban Vatan is not under detention, but he was referred to the Psychiatry Department at the Giresun State Hospital.
What happened?Rabia Naz Vatan was found injured in front of her home in Eynesil, Giresun on April 13, 2018. While the police records said that the girl committed suicide by jumping from the terrace of her family's home, her father claimed that she was killed. "A car hit my daughter but the hit was not strong enough to result in her death. Those who hit Rabia Naz then brought her near my house to make the incident look like my daughter committed suicide. My daughter lost her life because of blood loss," he said. Vatan said that the person who hit her daughter by a car was the nephew of Eynesil Mayor Coşkun Somuncuoğlu, according to the information he obtained. Vatan also claimed that the case was covered up after the ruling Justice and Development Party's (AKP) Giresun MP Nurettin Canikli intervened in. Minister of Interior Süleyman Soylu met with Vatan in February on the killing of his daughter. He told bianet after that the meeting took 10 minutes. Giresun Chief Public Prosecutor's Office said yesterday that the Görele Chief Public Prosecutor's Office is currently conducting the investigation into the incident and the search for evidence is still continuing. |
