Two people have been arrested as part of the investigation that was launched into the forest fire that broke out in Marmara Island in Balıkesir and could be taken under control in 10 hours.
H.T. and his son O.T. were previously taken into custody on the allegation that they caused the forest fire on the island by burning the haying crop at their garden. After the related procedures were completed at the Marmara District Security Directorate, the suspects were referred to the courthouse. The court has ruled for the arrest of H.T. and O.T.
The fire that erupted in Mestanağa in Marmara Island on August 12 spread to residential areas, damaging three houses and lodging buildings of the gendarmerie. While 60 houses were evacuated during the fire, four firefighters and some citizens were affected by the fires.
Several animals also lost their lives. Covering an area of around 80 hectares, the fire could be taken under control in 10 hours.
As part of the investigation launched into the fire, two people were detained for burning the haying crop at their garden and, thereby, causing the fire. (AÖ/SD)
