An explosion occurred near Antalya Chamber of Commerce and Industry at 8.50 a.m. this morning (October 25).
The reason of the explosion is not known yet. Many ambulances have been dispatched to the explosion scene.
There are 10 people with mild injuries according to the Governorship and a car broken into pieces.
Some other cars and the buildings around the car park were also damaged in the blast.
Ankara Mayor: "No life-threatening situation"
Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Menderes Türel speaking live on CNNTürk has stated;
“Naturally, on grounds of security concerns, we tend to consider such explosions an act of terrorism. But it’s too early to tell. It could also be an explosion due to an accident. According to the initial findings, there is no life-threatening situation. The injured ones seem to be O.K except some glass cuts. Of course, we only share information which our colleagues there have been sharing. It would be wise to wait for an explanation by authorities from the Security Directorate and the Governorship”.
President of chamber of commerce: A few staff members with mild injuries
President of Antalya Chamber of Commerce and Industry Davut Çetin stated; “A vehicle has exploded in the car park but we don’t know the reason yet. It could be a vehicle with LPG (Liquid Petroleum Gas). Some other cars also suffered damages and a few staff members have mild injuries. There is no severe situation".
Antalya, eighth most populous city in Turkey, is considered to be the center of tourism in Turkey. It was the host city for the 2015 G-20 summit and is currently hosting the EXPO 2016.
Broadcast ban
Antalya 1st Criminal Judgeship of Peace has issued a gag order regarding the explosion in accordance with Article 3/2 of the Press Law No. 5187.
Radio and Television Supreme Council (RTÜK) in its official website also announced that a broadcast was imposed on contents regarding the explosion.
