Following the two-day exploratory round of talks between the delegations of Turkey and Egypt in Cairo, a joint press release has been published.
Shared on the official website of Turkey's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the press release has shared the following information about the talks:
"The exploratory talks between the delegations of the Republic of Turkey and the Arab Republic of Egypt held in Cairo and headed by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Ambassador Sedat Önal and the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Ambassador Hamdi Sanad Loza, concluded today May 6, 2021, after two days of deliberations.
"The discussions were frank and in-depth. They addressed bilateral issues as well as a number of regional issues, in particular the situation in Libya, Syria, Iraq, and the need to achieve peace and security in the Eastern Mediterranean region.
"The two sides will evaluate the outcome of this round of consultations and agree on the next steps."
Normalization process
Turkey's Minister of Foreign Affairs Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu, in a statement last March, announced that the diplomatic contacts between Turkey and Egypt started without any preconditions.
Shortly afterwards, Justice and Development Party (AKP) Chair and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said, "Our cooperation with Egypt in matters of intelligence, diplomacy and economy is already ongoing. There is no problem about this. We will take it further depending on the outcomes."
Speaking to Pınar Tarcan from bianet, international market analyst Timothy Ash has defined the normalization process between Turkey and Egypt as "an incredible revision for Erdoğan." (EMK/SD)
