The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has described the "Turkey report" adopted by the European Parliament on Monday (June 6) as "biased and unrealistic."
The report recommended the EU not to resume Turkey's accession negotiations and said there was a "deliberate regression" from democratic standards in the country.
Out of the 622 MEPs participated in the vote, 448 voted "yes," 67 voted "no" and 107 abstained.
The report "ignored the need to strengthen relations between Turkey and the EU through mutual efforts," according to the ministry.
Ankara expects the European Parliament "not to become a tool for narrow-minded circles," it said. However, the ministry said, the EU has so far taken the "opposite stance."
The ministry further accused the European Parliament of "tolerating members of terrorist groups making propaganda."
The EU parliament had lost its credibility in the eyes of the public in Turkey, the ministry said.
The European Parliament's criticisms in terms of human rights, rule of law, and the Aegean and Eastern Mediterranean issues were "baseless" and "of no use to us," it said. (AEK/VK)
