Janez Lenarcic, the European Commission's Crisis Management Commissioner, has sounded the alarm over the climate-related threats in Europe. While some countries have experienced devastating floods, others are confronted with scorching heat waves.
In a social media message, Lenarcic declared, "Europe is facing a state of disaster." Countries such as Bulgaria, Greece, Southern Cyprus, Spain, Italy, France, Portugal, Croatia, and Turkey are at high risk of forest fires, posing a significant threat to their environments.
Since June, forest fires have ravaged many regions in Turkey's southern and southwestern provinces, causing extensive damage to hundreds of hectares of land.
Adding to the challenges, Serbia is facing extreme heat, while Slovenia is on red alert due to heavy rainfall. Meanwhile, Sweden, Norway, Austria, Hungary, and Croatia are bracing themselves for potential floods.
Janez Lenarcic, who also holds the role of the European Emergency Response Coordinator, assured that the European Union is closely monitoring the situation and stands ready to provide assistance as needed. (AS/VK)
