Ethnographer, documentary filmmaker and librarian Cem Madra has lost his life. The passing of Madra has been announced by "Açık Radyo" radio station, of which Cem Madra was among the founders.
Açık Radyo has written, "We are deeply sorry for losing a founder of our radio, our program presenter, friend, ethnologist, documentary filmmaker, librarian Cem Madra. We extend our condolences to the family and all loved ones of our friend who made innumerous contributions to Açık Radyo."
The son of academic and writer Ömer Madra and Meral Mutlu, Cem Madra made the "Last Days of Sulukule" (Sulukule'nin Son Günleri) documentary film. He was also one of the founders of the Açık Radyo, a regional radio station which went on air on November 13, 1995 and broadcasts to the metropolitan Istanbul area and its environs.
