Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu has said, “Espionage is at issue in Turkish National Intelligence Agency (MİT) truck news report” in his evaluation regarding Cumhuriyet daily Editor in Chief Can Dündar, and its Ankara representative Erdem Gül who have been released upon verdict of the Constitutional Court.
Davutoğlu speaking in the press meeting organized as to the water project between Turkey and Northern Cyprus has briefly said the following:
“They released legally dangerous documents that had to be kept confidential.
“Their purpose was to have us stand in the dock”
“They may criticize our Syrian policy. They may criticize our economic policy. However, if an operation was conducted, this operation was brought under confidentiality. This situation in nowhere can be assessed as freedom of the press in the world. The purpose of those who delivered these documents to them is to pressure the government, and have the government stand in the dock”.
“As trial is in progress…”
“We’ve introduced the right of individual application. After all legal processes are completed, it may serve as authority to apply before ECtHR (European Court of Human Rights). This is clear in the Constitution. What might be the reason to apply to the Constitutional Court in such a situation?
“However, the trial goes on in accordance with basis. It is an intervention to reflect it as a trial of freedom of the press by detaching it from the basis while the trial continues”.
“Basic principles of law must be respected”
“Primary court makes its decision. No one has the right to intervene in a trial in progress.
“Legal system limits us all, everyone will abide by it. If there will be such power exceeding, it should be defined correctly. Everyone must respect basic principles of law. (EKN/TK)
