Presidency Spokesperson İbrahim Kalın has announced that the intended meeting of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) Ağrı MP Leyla Zana would be held when it fits schedule.
Kalın holding an informative press conference in Presidential Palace has stated that the private secretaries had been working on arranging the meeting and added that Zana had been abroad and the meeting would be held at an opportunate time after she is back.
They had met in 2012
Leyla Zana, prior to resolution process, had stated in 2012 that “Erdoğan as the head of the strongest government of Turkey’s history is the only person who can solve Kurdish question”.
Zana had added, “I believe he can solve this. I have never lost my hope, nor my faith in him to solve this issue” and asked Erdoğan for an appointment.
After that meeting, Zana expressing then-PM Erdoğan was sincere and stated that she told him that Oslo process should start again.
She didn’t take the oath again
Zana in oath-taking ceremony in the opening of Grand National Assembly of Turkey’s (TBMM) 26th legislative year used the term “Nation of Turkey” instead of “Turkish nation”. Interim President of the Assembly, Deniz Baykal disannulled the oath.
Zana refused to take the oath again.
She was detained by force at the parliament
Leyla Zana, Hatip Dicle, Mahmut Alınak and Selim Sadak were elected PM from Social Democratic Populist Party (SHP) in 1991 elections.
Zana’s taking the oath in Kurdish was subjected to investigation.
Police took Zana into custody by force along with Dicle, Alınak, and Sadak on March 4, 1994.
They were arrested 13 days after the detention and stayed in prison for more than nine years.(EKN/DG)
