President and ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) Chair Recep Tayyip Erdoğan spoke at the AKP group meeting today (April 20).
Criticizing the six opposition parties which have recently issued a "memorandum of understanding" foreseeing the establishment of a "reinforced parliamentary system" in Turkey, President Erdoğan argued that the recent process in Turkey and the world has "manifested that the opposition has no aims other than their own benefits and greeds."
He said, "Especially our nation knows who set up the table [of negotiations] and what dirty bargainings take place there. Our people see very clearly that they will not take a step for the country's good."
'Steps to save Turkey's future'
Further in his speech, President Erdoğan also mentioned the economic crisis amid the rising cost of living in Turkey. Arguing that "we are in a period when we have mobilized our economic potential", he said:
"As we have promised our nation, we keep on growing our country through investment, employment, production and export.
"We, of course, have problems, hardships and troubles. We are aware of them all. We are working on every single one of them.
"If the troubles that we experience push us into ingratitude and spiritual uprise, this will be where our calamity begins. We live in a country where there is safety of life and property in every acre. Thank God, we live in a country where everyone who wants to work can find a job.
"We are taking steps that will save the future of Turkey. Since we came to power, we have always sought ways to increase our people's income.
"Whenever trouble comes up, we mobilize our all means in favor of our people. What we did during the outbreak is obvious.
"The war in the Black Sea has shaken the global economy even deeper. What we are to do is to embrace our unity, solidarity and our 2023 targets. We go about our own business." (AS/SD)
