President and Justice and Development Party (AKP) Chair Recep Tayyip Erdoğan will sue Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, the leader of the main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP), his attorney has announced.
"Due to his baseless accusations and unreasonable slanders against Mr. President, legal action will be taken against Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu," lawyer Hüseyin Aydın wrote on Twitter today (May 25).
Last night, Kılıçdaroğlu claimed in a Twitter video that Erdoğan was planning to flee to the US in case he loses next year's elections.
The president's family had been transferring money under the guise of "donations" from two foundations in Turkey to one foundation in the US, Kılıçdaroğlu said, adding that he had obtained the documents showing the transactions.
Government officials immediately denied the CHP leader's claims, saying that those foundations are educational institutions, and the transactions were not "confidential." (EMK/VK)
