President and Justice and Development Party (AKP) Chair Recep Tayyip Erdoğan spoke at the 10th Ambassadors Conference, which was held in the capital city of Ankara today (August 13).
Stating that "Turkey has been under an economic siege," President Erdoğan said, "It is obvious that the attacks that started with the Gezi incidents, continued with December 17-25 and were taken to an upper phase with July 15 [coup attempt] will continue."
"You can be a President all you want"
Here are some of the highlights from Erdoğan's speech:
"Everyone sees that the developments in the exchange rate do not have an economic basis and has the characteristics of an attack on our country.
"You can be a President all you want. You cannot just go to bed one night and say, 'I have imposed tariffs on aluminium and steel' when you wake up.
"On the one side, you are strategic; on the other, you shoot in the foot. Is it possible to accept such a thing? It is not possible that we accept it.
"Economic terror figures"
"The things that we have been going through have nothing to do with the crises. We are up against a completely different situation.
"There are several economic terror figures on social media. Our justice has taken the necessary measures against these people as well, the justice has been giving them a hard time.
"We will find a way"
"We can survive these attacks with the support of our nation. We have to break the taboos. We will either find a way or find a way. There is no other way out. We will spoil the game all together."
Erdoğan spoke, US Dollar became 7.03 TRY
When President Erdoğan began delivering his speech, the exchange rate of US Dollar was 6.89 Turkish Lira. In the course of his speech, it hit 7.03 TRY.
According to the data shared by Investing website, as of 2.45 p.m. today, the exchange rate of US Dollar was 6.99 Turkish Lira.
