After breaking the fast of Ramazan with NATO General Secretary Anders Fogh Rasmussen in Ankara yesterday, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said:
"As Prime Minister, I want all NGOs, all political parties, all academics, all written and visual media, all those who believe they have something to say, and the business world to contribute to this process."
Since 29 July, the government has been listening to different sections of society on the issue of democratisation, the meetings being coordinated by Minister of the Interior Beşir Atalay. The main opposition parties, the Republican People's Party (CHP) and the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) have been objecting to the initiative, but the response from other parties and NGOs has generally been positive.
The latest institution to comment was the National Security Council (MGK), which signalled its approval. (EÜ/AG)
