President and Justice and Development Party (AKP) Chair Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has spoken at AKP's weekly group meeting:
Erdoğan touched on women's rights due to March 8 International Women's Day.
Saying that "Women are human above all things", Erdoğan urged the media to "suspend their broadcasts":
"I tell you, kiss under the foot of your mothers. "The number of people who betray mothers has started to increase recently and TV broadcasts are going over the line. I call on the media. Please suspend these broadcasts, or you will drive the people mad".
"Women are human above all things"
"It is mothers' or women's day every day for us, not just one day. For us, women are human above all things. Any seized right of women is a threat posed against the whole humanity. Any suffering that women are subjected to is a blow dealt on dignity of the whole human kind.
"Furthermore, in addition to other attributions, women have a special role in the society with their capacity of being a mother and wife. Men and women are both the same, one is meaningless without the other.
"Hopefully we will eliminate all discriminatory understandings about women. Let us not forget what our Prophet orders: Paradise lies at the feet of the mother".
