President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has talked at the event organized for Lawyers Day.
Erdoğan stated that he doesn’t agree with academics to be tried without arrest. Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu in his speech on March 29 said that trial without arrest is supposed to be the main principle as to the imprisonment of Esra Mungan.
Erdoğan spoke as follows:
“We know that there are so-called lawyers working as unit of terror organization under the name of law office. The same thing goes for journalism identity, academic identity which I especially underline, doctor, teacher identities. You see recently that it is said ‘they should be tried without arrest since they are academics’. If they are guilty, if jurisprudence ruled that, then they will be arrested and tried in that way”.
Deprivation of citizenship
Erdoğan said those who support “terror” might be denaturalized:
“If this is called a challenge, then yes, I with the title of President challenge anyone harboring ill-will against Republic of Turkey. Maybe we die one by one, but we kill them 10 by 10, 20 by 20, 30 by 30. It continues like that. We have to be determined to take all precautions including depriving the terror supporters of citizenship. They cannot even be our citizens”. (NV/TK)
