Vice Minister of Health Muhammet Güven has been removed from office and Sabahattin Aydın has been appointed in his place.
According to a decree signed by President and ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) Chair Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and published in the Official Gazette today (November 18), Prof. Sabahattin Aydın has been appointed as Turkey's new Vice Minister of Health.
About Sabahattin Aydın
Prof. Sabahattin Aydın is the President of İstanbul Medipol University, a foundation university established in İstanbul in 2009.
Sabahattin Aydın was born in 1959 in Turkey's western province of Bolu near İstanbul. He graduated from the İstanbul University Faculty of Medicine. He worked as a practicing physician at the Ministry of National Education Gümüşhane Medical Training Center from 1985 to 1987. He completed his specialization training at the Urology Department of Trakya University Faculty of Medicine and became a urologist in 1992.
* Prof. Dr. Sabahattin Aydın
He worked as an attending physician at Geyve Public Hospital in Sakarya province in 1992-1994. He was appointed as an Asst. Prof. to the Department of Urology of Yüzüncü Yıl University Faculty of Medicine in 1994. He then became an Assoc. Prof. in 1996 and a Prof. in 2003.
Sabahattin Aydın previously worked as a Deputy Chief Physician, Head of Department, Head of Surgical Medical Sciences Department and Vice Dean. He completed his PhD studies in 1998 and obtained a doctorate of science degree in the field of clinical microbiology in 2003.
From 2001 to 2002, he was the Director of Medical Affairs of the İstanbul Metropolitan Municipality. From 2006 to 2009, he was a member of the World Health Organization (WHO) Executive Board. He also worked as the Deputy Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health. (TP/SD)
